After joining the SMBC, Akio Isowa was engaged in corporate business, legal affairs, corporate planning, human resources management before establishing Retail Marketing Department and IT Strategy Department as the General Manager. He also led the debit card business, the UX project of the internet banking application. As the head of Transaction Business Division, he led product and sales planning for online payment services such as Bank Pay and COTORA. Since 2023, he is leading digital innovation of the SMBC Group as the Chief Digital Innovation Officer.
